LIT field Day

It’s a Field Day but LIT!

The English class with the top attendance gets the opportunity to spend a day completing missions through various literary arts based activities to win a grand prize!

Each activity is specifically curated around the ELA core standards.

LIT Field Day Goals:

  • Promote Literary Awareness

  • Encourage collaboration & critical thinking

  • Incentives consistant attendance

  • Extend learning beyond the classroom

  • Inspire continued reading

2. Activation of Local Parks

  • Partner with local parks to host safe activity space for games and courses

  • Create dynamic activities for students to activate their bodies and minds

3. get out the classroom & get lit!

Using the TN State ELA standards, students will participate in games such as:

Lit Races

Teams relay to answer questions around literary terms/devices and story themes.

Passage Toss

Students will work as a team to analyze a passage and choose between a number of analytical terms that correctly answer a list of questions.

Character/Author Guess Who

Students will read a passage and connect it to the character or the author’s history and literary works.

Giant connect 4

Students will be given definitions to terms and have to quickly decide the term creating connect 4 before the opposing team

How it works

  1. Class selection

  • One English class is selected based on class attendance rating

  • Class gets the opportunity to participate in various field day style activities that incorporate materials from their classwork.

  • Class is separated into teams and winning team receives special prize!

Lit bookclub

Get reading outside of the classroom!

As the literary world has grown it has been able to reflect the diversity within our communities. It’s time to highlight the works that make reading relatable and fun.

LIT BookClub Goals:

  • Build connection through classic and modern stories

  • Create dialogue among community members surrounding text

  • Offer various genres for numerous readers interest
